TREEHOUSE MEETS JAYDOT

January 28, 2016

JAYDOT is a young producer from Philadelphia, US. His passion for making meaningful and creative sounds has seen him establish himself within Soundcloud’s underground community. JAYDOT focuses his talents on creating; future RnB, chill wave and electronic music. At just 20 years of age, he is the founder of Philadelphia based management group ‘Future Aesthetic’ and currently working on dope future projects. Including featuring on our debut compilation due for release next week!

Like most young men in the world, JAYDOT is guilty of a fondness of the amazing Kehlani, which have seen him produce quality remix bootlegs of the female icon’s notable anthems. Catching the attention of me instantly with such good music being created by the Philadelphian you can definitely feel his love for his art behind each track made, so expect big things from this guy.

We got to find out more information about his life, goals and music in an exclusive THV Interview.

TreeHouse Vibes x JAYDOT Interview

-

TREEHOUSE: Yo bro! Introduce yourself, and tell us where you’re from?

JAYDOT:  Hey guys, my name is Jana Jennings (pronounced John-ah), I'm from Philadelphia but I currently attend Pennsylvania State University, and I produce electronic music under JAYDOT.

TREEHOUSE: When and why did you start making music?

JAYDOT: I first found my interest in music when I was very young (about 8) and my dad bought me a bass guitar. From there on, I began teaching myself guitar and piano and have since expanded my musicality to production and compositions!

TREEHOUSE: What kind of sound or style would you say you have?

JAYDOT: Uhhh, this is a hard one. Without limiting myself, I'd probably describe it as, at the very least, emotionally driven. I always try to convey a message or tell a story through my music whether it be an instrumental or something with vocals.

TREEHOUSE: Where is your favourite spot?

JAYDOT: MY BED. But not necessarily because I love to sleep, but because I'm usually awake for hours contemplating on many relevant things in my life (College, career, relationships, the people around me). No matter what I'm going through at the time, good music always comes from it and I feel better!

TREEHOUSE: What's one thing you can't live without?

JAYDOT: Headphones.... and a listening device. Always listening to new (or old) and exciting music.

TREEHOUSE: What's one thing on your bucket list?

JAYDOT: Do some photography in the Himalayas

TREEHOUSE: Favourite track right now?

JAYDOT: Sángo's 'Na Hora' with Faktiss and Chris McClenney is the by far the coolest creation I've heard in a while!

TREEHOUSE: One instrument you wish you could play?

JAYDOT: The violin! Or the alto saxophone... Both!

TREEHOUSE: If you could play a show overseas tomorrow where would it be?

JAYDOT: London, the smaller underground electronic venues are insane

TREEHOUSE: Yeah! We would welcome you here with open arms. Who are your influences?

JAYDOT: Ahhh, the entire SOULECTION crew. They're really doing a lot of genuine work for innovative musicians

TREEHOUSE: Other passions beside music?

JAYDOT: I enjoy landscape/travel photography. Honestly I just really like to get outside and see the world.

TREEHOUSE: What can you tell us about future projects?

JAYDOT: Well on top of my track I'm releasing for the TreeHosue comp album, I have another track coming out for Émince de Musique's comp album in the spring.... And I've been working on an EP, but let's not talk about that yet ;)

TREEHOUSE: Name one artist or collective who you want to point out for 2016?

JAYDOT: Oh man, I've had the opportunity to work with so many great people recently. I'd probably say this rapper from Chicago, Abhi D. Every time I've worked with him, he's always had some ideas in his head and is ready to begin recording rough drafts.

TREEHOUSE: Who would you love to work with dead or alive?

JAYDOT: J Dilla or Nujabes. Both have put so much soul into their work.
