This year has been full of; unreal talent finds, opportunities and defining moments in our culture. As our Christmas special TreeHouse talks to one of our own for the last interview of the year. verzache is a beat-smith, producer, vibe machine and one of the most hardworking individuals I’ve had the pleasure to meet this year. verzache is just 18 and from Toronto, Canada. As we all know Toronto and the whole of Canada have been so influential in music recently and we’ve been starting to see the locals climb through the Future Beats sound.
verzache ~ rose
The first track I heard from ‘yung verzarchhh’ was his redo of ‘(dreamchild) – she just wanna’. The gradual build up and, oh so familiar to us now, female voice "verzache hehe" tag did not prepare my ears for what I was about to hear. His sound is so hard hitting and imaginative it’s not a mystery why in the last couple of months his growth has been visible to his engaged audience. verzache was one of the latter members to join the TreeHouse Vibes roster and his inclusion has been our pleasure. His ability to be diverse and new as a young producer shows his quality and knowledge of music. Good vibes at the drop of a hat with bass filled, choppy anthems. Our first release of this year was “verzache ~ rose” a track that managed to capture what our movement is all about in just 3 and half minutes. Creativity and vibes.
I’ve been waffling so let’s get into the interview! For the final time of 2015……
TreeHouse meet verzache.
TREEHOUSE: Yo brother could you introduce yourself, and tell us where you are from?
VERZACHE: Ay, I'm verzache aka zach, aka yung cocoa, aka v. I'm from Toronto (da 6ix).
TREEHOUSE: When did you start making music?
VERZACHE: I started making music about two years ago on Christmas randomly.
TREEHOUSE: What kind of sound would you say you have?
VERZACHE: I think the sound I have is somewhat unique, though it is definitely influenced by a lot of artists and genres. I'd like to say that my sound is original, organic and vibey.
TREEHOUSE: Favourite place in the world?
VERZACHE: My favourite place in the world is probably any late night jazz club tbh. I haven't really travelled that much so I can’t say I have a real favourite place in the world.
TREEHOUSE: What's one thing you can't live without?
VERZACHE: I definitely could not live without music. But if were talking about material possessions, I would have to say my laptop, because it means the world to me. I need that thing to make music so...
TREEHOUSE: What's one thing on your bucket list?
VERZACHE: One thing on my bucket list is to go to New Zealand, I'm not really the travelling type but New Zealand seems pretty sick. I think the name has to do with me wanting to go, it’s a pretty colossal name. New Zealand would be a dope name for a person for sure.
TREEHOUSE: Favourite track right now?
VERZACHE: My favourite track right now is probably "In a sentimental mood - John Coltrane"
TREEHOUSE: One instrument you wish you could play?
VERZACHE: One instrument I wish I could play is the piano. It would definitely amp up my production level.
TREEHOUSE: Where would you want to do your first show overseas?
VERZACHE: For my first show overseas, I would want to do it in Jamaica because I heard the atmosphere and energy is turnt to an unbelievable level, which would make it a wicked time for me and the audience.
TREEHOUSE: Who are your influences?
VERZACHE: My influences are really wide spread lol : MrCarmack, Yung Gud, Sam Gellaitry, Montell2099, Kaytranada, PYRMDPLAZA, Madbliss, Oshi, Monte booker, Muddy Waters, John Coltrane, Jeff beck, Howlin wolf, BB King, Jdilla, Baba stiltz, Boi1da, Goldwater and so so so many more.
TREEHOUSE: Other passions beside music?
VERZACHE: Some of my other passions include, basketball and I can’t really think of anything else.
TREEHOUSE: What can you tell us about future projects?
VERZACHE: For my future projects, there are just so many lol. I have over 400 projects on my computer that I haven't finished, but I plan on going back to them and adding a little more and fixing up the mix. To be honest, most of those projects aren’t going to be released, and the ones that get released are ones that I work on most recent.
TREEHOUSE: Can you tell us more about the rose collective and how it came about?
VERZACHE: About a week ago, me and my boy Todd were talking over skype about soundcloud and how many collectives are being formed. Some of these collectives are just 13 year old kids starting something that could end up being huge. So we decided on making this collective for fun, to see what would happen. Also the name is really sexy so we are proud about that.
Basically, for this collective, we are focussing on only posting really creative original material, stuff that will make the collective stand out from other collectives that strictly post future trap and what not. Hopefully something good will come out of it.
TREEHOUSE: Who would you love to work with dead or alive?
VERZACHE: I would really want to work with Monte Booker because I feel like we have similar tastes in music and we could make some crazy shit. Honestly it would be so wicked.
